Agrodolce, the celebrated Roman restaurant on Charlotte Street, is proud to celebrate its first anniversary in London this March. One year since opening in Fitzrovia, the restaurant continues to bring the timeless flavours and warm hospitality of Rome to the heart of the capital, staying true to its founding philosophy of tradition, quality and authenticity.
Owned by husband-and-wife team Antonio and Maria, Agrodolce first established its name in Rome in 2018, just moments from the Trevi Fountain. Known for its dedication to traditional Roman cuisine and genuine hospitality, the London restaurant mirrors the essence of its Roman counterpart, offering an experience that feels less like dining out and more like being welcomed into a Roman home.
Over the past year, Agrodolce has become recognised for its unwavering commitment to authenticity. The focus remains firmly on traditional Roman pasta dishes, high-quality ingredients and affordable pricing, delivered without gimmicks or theatrics. Here, the emphasis is on food and hospitality, creating the kind of relaxed, generous atmosphere that Italians cherish around their own tables.
At its core, Agrodolce celebrates the art of handmade pasta and honours the tradition of fatta con amore (made with love) which can be savoured in every bite. Guest favourites include Mezzemaniche alla Carbonara, prepared the traditional Roman way with guanciale, pecorino and egg, and Bucatini all’Amatriciana with guanciale and tomato sauce. Their classic Tiramisù has also become a best-seller, reflecting the beauty of simplicity done exceptionally well, which they serve unlimited from the tray, tableside on Sunday’s, just as if guests were at home.
Starters such as bruschetta with stracciatella, confit tomatoes and anchovies and Crocchette di Patate, homemade potato croquettes with mozzarella and black pepper, echo the comforting flavours found in Rome’s neighbourhood trattorias. Each dish is rooted in culinary heritage, showcasing honest cooking that allows quality ingredients to speak for themselves.
To perfectly pair with these dishes, there is an extensive selection of Italian wines and handcrafted cocktails, each chosen to reflect the diverse flavours of Italy. Curated by Maria and Antonio, the wine list features prominent varieties from Lazio and across the country, while classic cocktails such as the Agrodolce Spritz and Limoncello Spritz offer a nod to traditional aperitivo culture.
Agrodolce, translating to ‘bittersweet’, is a homage to the rich history of Rome. The London restaurant has been thoughtfully designed to mirror the timeless charm of its original home, with vintage crockery sourced from Italian markets, deep green marble tables and soft lighting creating an intimate, welcoming setting. The result is a stripped-back, authentic space where guests can gather, share and savour, just as they would in Rome.
Maria Soldatova, Co-Owner of Agrodolce, reflects on the milestone:
‘Celebrating one year on Charlotte Street is a very special moment for us. Our dream has always been to share the authentic taste of Rome and create a true Roman home in London. We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received this past year and look forward to welcoming many more guests to our table, always fatto con’ amore.
Open daily from 12–3:30pm and 5–10:30pm.
