LOUIS XIII unveils the latest masterpiece of its Black Pearl collection

The new collection is a tribute to the birthplace of LOUIS XIII

LOUIS XIII Cognac unveils BLACK PEARL: TRIBUTE TO THE BIRTHPLACE OF LOUIS XIII, a new highly limited edition within its iconic Black Pearl collection. Inspired by Le Grollet, the historic cellar where the story of LOUIS XIII began, this exceptional creation captures the singular character of a place revered for generations by the House’s Cellar Masters.

Cellar Master at LOUIS XIII, Baptiste Loiseau said: “Each tasting in Le Grollet is a deeply moving sensory experience. Its aromatic palette is beautifully elevated by the Cellar’s atmosphere, its ethereal humidity, cool temperature, and enveloping half-light in Winter. It reveals hidden facets of LOUIS XIII, unveiling a richer, more profound essence, akin to uncovering ancient treasures.”

A UNIQUE BLEND CAPTURING THE ESSENCE OF LE GROLLET

At the heart of this edition lies an extraordinary eau-de-vie that Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau selected from the House’s historic collection of demijohns. Among the House’s treasures, it is the sole eau-de-vie identified as carrying the unmistakable and timeless imprint of Le Grollet, transmitted by his predecessor, Pierrette Trichet.

Baptiste Loiseau then infused this rare and precious eau-de-vie in a single tierçon from the Cellar, creating a singular blend that embodies the soul of this unique place, where time seems to stand still in the shadows.

Limited to only 398 decanters worldwide, this creation is housed in a reimagined LOUIS XIII decanter adorned with midnight-blue reflections inspired by the mystery, depth and darkness of Le Grollet.

A FIRST-EVER TEMPERATURE-DRIVEN RITUAL

To reveal the full character of this singular blend, LOUIS XIII has created, for the very first time, an innovative tasting ritual that recreates the natural conditions of Le Grollet, allowing the blend to be experienced as it is by the Cellar Master within the Cellar itself.

Each decanter is thus presented in a bespoke Cooling Cellar, allowing the liquid to rest at a lower temperature than ambient temperature, to a minimum of 13°C.

In this state, LOUIS XIII Black Pearl rests in profound stillness – a dense, velvety embrace of beeswax, honey, precious wood, and patchouli, as if slumbering within ancient tierçons. It evokes the sensation of stepping across the earthen floor of the cellar, where the air is enveloped by the scent of ancient oak.

Then, as it reaches ambient temperature, LOUIS XIII Black Pearl awakens, gaining its signature brilliance and light. Gradually, deeper facets emerge: warm spices, richer rancio, nutmeg, and whispers of chocolate. From cool to ambient, this natural temperature evolution unveils LOUIS XIII Black Pearl’s full and radiant spectrum, drop by drop.

Rémy Cointreau Prestige Division Director, Ludovic du Plessis said: “For the first time, we brought the experience of the Cellar beyond its walls, with this singular blend and its exclusive temperature-driven ritual. BLACK PEARL TRIBUTE TO THE BIRTHPLACE OF LOUIS XIII offers a tasting journey unlike any other in the world of LOUIS XIII.”

In the UK, BLACK PEARL: TRIBUTE TO THE BIRTHPLACE OF LOUIS XIII will come to life at an elite curation of luxury on-trade establishments, including The Dorchester, The St. Regis, Grantley Hall and A. Wong, where guests will have the opportunity to experience the House’s first-ever temperature-driven tasting ritual.

The limited edition will also be available exclusively at the LOUIS XIII Boutique at Harrods, priced at £21,000.
