CIU: A new horizon for global citizens

A conversation with Charmaine Donovan, CEO of the Citizenship by Investment Unit, Antigua and Barbuda

Nestled in the turquoise waters of the Eastern Caribbean, Antigua and Barbuda is a captivating twin-island nation that invites exploration. Antigua, the larger of the two islands, is renowned for its stunning beaches and vibrant harbours, while Barbuda, just a short boat or plane ride away, offers a quieter, more untouched beauty, home to lush wildlife and serene pink-sand shores.

Tourism is the heartbeat of Antigua and Barbuda’s economy, drawing visitors with its warm climate, luxury resorts and world-class sailing opportunities. Accessible via Antigua’s modern international airport and welcoming seaports, the islands remain a favourite destination for travellers and cruise ships alike. Beyond the perennial sunshine and breathtaking scenery, Antigua pulses with culture and celebration, particularly during its annual carnival, dubbed ‘the greatest summer festival’. Held between late July and early August, the vibrant event fills the islands with music, dance and spectacular costumes, bringing the nation’s rich heritage vividly to life.

The country thrives as a proud constitutional monarchy with deep-rooted democratic traditions. Its political system embraces a parliamentary democracy, where elected leaders work alongside a Governor-General representing the British monarch, reflecting the nation’s unique heritage and commitment to stable governance. This blend of tradition, stability and tropical allure makes Antigua and Barbuda a compelling destination on every level. From world-class education and modern healthcare to a deeply welcoming community, the islands offer investors the opportunity to establish a wonderful future for themselves and their families.

The Luxury Report caught up with Charmaine Donovan, CEO of the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU), Antigua and Barbuda, to find out how interested parties can make the twin-island nation part of their lives.
