Where festival VIBES meet riverside glamour

Elegant yet vibrant, refined yet celebratory, the Henley Festival remains one of Britain’s most anticipated social events. Donna Richardson previews the 2026 edition

There are summer festivals, and then there is the Henley Festival – a celebration where elegance is not an afterthought but the very essence of the experience. Set along the tranquil banks of the River Thames in the picturesque town of Henley-on-Thames, this singular event returns from 8–12 July 2026, bringing five glittering nights of music, art and unmistakable British sophistication.

Henley is synonymous with black-tie glamour: as dusk falls, the riverside transforms into a dazzling tableau of tuxedos, silk gowns and champagne flutes catching the evening light. Guests arrive for an experience that blends cultural indulgence with social prestige.

The Floating Stage

At the heart of the festival sits its most striking feature, the Floating Stage, which is poised elegantly upon the Thames. Against this cinematic backdrop, some of the most recognisable names in music will perform. Last year’s event saw Jamie Cullum, Matteo Bocelli, Diana Ross, Rick Astley, and McFly, and this year’s promises to be just as spectacular.

The 2026 edition opens with pop icon Boy George alongside Culture Club, whose unmistakable sound defined the exuberance of the 1980s. The following evening welcomes chart-topping trio, The Sugababes, bringing a polished blend of pop and R&B to the riverside crowd.

Friday promises an evening of timeless entertainment from the legendary Lulu, followed by the ever-popular ABBA tribute sensation Björn Again. On Saturday, Alex James of Blur presents his acclaimed Britpop Classical performance, where the anthems of the 1990s meet the sweeping grandeur of a full orchestra. The festival concludes with The Bootleg Beatles, delivering a nostalgic homage to the music that shaped an era.

A Festival of Culture

Beyond the main stage lies a carefully curated cultural playground. Visitors can wander through ten art galleries, discover contemporary works in the Sculpture Garden, and experience live performances across intimate venues scattered throughout the grounds.

Comedy is another highlight of the programme, with celebrated names including Alan Davies, Shappi Khorsandi, and the delightfully flamboyant Julian Clary bringing wit and theatrical flair to the festival. Food and drink are central to the Henley experience. Guests can move between elegant restaurants, champagne bars and gourmet street food stalls, each designed to complement the festival’s luxurious atmosphere.

A highlight for 2026 is the Riverside Feasting experience, curated by acclaimed pop-up chef Jimmy Garcia. Here, guests gather for a relaxed yet refined communal dining experience overlooking the Thames, where exceptional food is paired with equally exceptional views. For those seeking the ultimate indulgence, the Riverside Social VIP space offers a private sanctuary within the festivities, complete with premium hospitality and prime vantage points across the river. The Bedouin tent is also an elegant place to relax.

An occasion to Remember

As the final notes fade and the sky darkens over Henley, the evening concludes in spectacular fashion. Fireworks burst above the Thames, their reflections shimmering across the water as music and laughter drift into the summer night.

Elegant yet vibrant, refined yet celebratory, Henley Festival remains one of Britain’s most distinctive social occasions – a place where music, culture and style meet beneath the glow of a midsummer evening. It’s always a good idea to go to Henley.
