Today, the Manufacture extends this collaboration by bringing Serena’s vision to the Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph with a dedicated limited edition. This new 38 mm wristwatch is honed from white ceramic and illuminated by a pink-tinted mother-of-pearl dial adding both symbolic depth and striking contrast. Bold in colour and precise in execution, it is powered by Calibre 6401, the brand’s latest integrated chronograph movement.

Serena’s blend of power and grace is echoed in the 38 mm Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph “Serena Williams” Limited Edition, combining the complication’s sportive nature with the collection’s enduring sophistication. The case middle, bezel, crown and integrated bracelet are crafted in white ceramic, a material recognised for its exceptional resistance and homogeneous shade. Due to its hardness, ceramic is demanding to work with, requiring consistency and precision at every stage of the manufacturing process to ensure high quality across all components. Every surface is then meticulously hand-finished with an alternation of satin-brushing and chamfering to reveal the Royal Oak’s distinctive architecture.
The pink-tinted mother-of-pearl dial symbolises feminine energy, intuition and inner strength. Creating a subtle dialogue between robustness and refinement, its soft iridescence brings depth and nuance to the timepiece. The dial is enhanced by luminescent white gold hands and matching applied hour-markers, with rhodium-toned threads encircling the counters for a two-toned aesthetic. The pink date window with white numerals is positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock, ensuring clarity and legibility while preserving visual harmony. The interplay of textures and materials also extends to the bracelet, as this versatile timepiece comes with a pink rubber strap featuring white ceramic studs and a titanium AP folding clasp.
CALIBRE 6401
A HOLISTIC EVOLUTION
Driven by precision, ergonomics and long-term performance, Calibre 6401 continues the Manufacture’s tradition of sportive timepieces while responding to contemporary expectations. Inaugurated earlier this year, this new-generation chronograph movement now equips the 38 mm Royal Oak limited edition in white ceramic. Bringing together technical and aesthetic refinement, it replaces the famous Calibre 2385, which has powered the brand’s more compact Chronographs for nearly three decades. Calibre 6401 was developed entirely in-house and has recently been introduced across the Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore collections.
The integrated column-wheel mechanism is equipped with a patented vertical-clutch system that has been simplified to reduce the number of parts, allowing for smoother activation and enhanced reliability. Calibre 6401 also features a redesigned layout for visual harmony and optimal readability. The minute and hour counters are now positioned at 9 and 3 o’clock respectively, while the instant-jump date is located between 4 and 5 o’clock. The movement’s 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight and refined Haute Horlogerie decorations, including Côtes de Genève, circular graining, polishing and satin brushing, are visible through the sapphire caseback, whose titanium frame is engraved with “Limited Edition.”
THE ROYAL OAK CHRONOGRAPH
A SPORTIVE LINEAGE
Introduced in 1997 for the Royal Oak’s 25th anniversary, the collection’s first chronograph (ref. 25860) combined the original model’s avant‑garde design with the sophistication of a new movement. One of the thinnest selfwinding chronographs ever created, Calibre 2385 measured just 5.5 mm in thickness and was the result of a collaboration between Audemars Piguet and the movement blank manufacturer Frédéric Piguet. This innovation established a technical and aesthetic foundation that would endure for nearly thirty years.
Designed to measure elapsed time with precision, the chronograph naturally lent itself to collaborations with athletes whose disciplines are shaped by performance, timing and control. In 1999, the Royal Oak “City of Sails” (ref. 25860) introduced one of the Manufacture’s first close engagements with competitive sailing – a titanium and stainless steel limited edition of 300 pieces, created in partnership with Alinghi for the America’s Cup. In 2008, the Royal Oak Sachin Tendulkar (ref. 26161) was crafted for one of cricket’s most influential figures, with a display designed as a tribute to sporting excellence. Four years later, three limited editions dedicated to Leo Messi (ref. 26325) extended the line’s sportive expression to football.
