Set along the beautiful Tagus River, Hyatt Regency Lisboa redefines modern luxury in one of the city’s most captivating neighbourhoods, Belém. Blending sleek contemporary design with a setting rich in history and culture, the hotel places Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks, museums, and culinary experiences just moments away.
The hotel
Hyatt Regency Lisboa offers 204 spacious, modern rooms and suites, many featuring balconies with views over the Tagus River. It is also home to the luxurious Serenity – The Art of Well Being spa, alongside a large gym, Active by Serenity. Business travellers can take advantage of more than 220 square metres of meeting rooms, and all guests can enjoy the stylish panoramic rooftop bar as well as a range of on-site dining options.
Riverside location
Situated in the heart of Belém, the hotel is within easy reach of some of Lisbon’s most treasured landmarks, including Jerónimos Monastery, Padrão dos Descobrimentos, Belém Tower, the Maritime Museum, Museu de Arte Contemporânea Armando Martins (MACAM), the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT), and the renowned Museu Nacional dos Coches.
The hotel is just a 20-minute drive from Lisbon Airport and a 10-minute drive into the historic centre of the city.
First impressions and arrival
The hotel feels spacious and light, with a grand reception area, signature hotel scent, fresh flowers, and welcoming check-in staff. I was greeted with a warm smile, and the check-in process was both quick and informative.
When I entered my suite, the staff has kindly laid out snacks, fruity water, and souvenir photos for me to keep, along with two Lisboa cards, which came in very handy. They also brought up my Portuguese Sneferu candles, which I had delivered the day before.
Rooms and suites
The 204 rooms and suites draw inspiration from Portugal’s Age of Discovery and contemporary local design, featuring soft blue tones, oak wood finishes, and modern technology.
I stayed in a top-floor suite, which was extremely spacious, with its own lounge, dining, and kitchen areas. The generous layout, large balcony, and USB ports dotted around everywhere was impressive. The bed was large and comfortable, and the room was wonderfully quiet – perfect for a good night’s sleep. I loved that the bathroom was stocked with Serenity – The Art of Well Being ‘Orange Whispers’ products, which smelled incredible.
Dining options
The hotel’s restaurant, Viseversa, is expansive yet cleverly designed to feel intimate, with a pretty bar dividing the space. In the mornings, it offers an extensive buffet with a wide variety of dishes to set you up for the day. At lunch and dinner, the menu blends Portuguese cuisine with international influences, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The food was excellent, and the service consistently efficient and polite.
Additionally, there is a riverside Yellow Tram 65 café as well as a ZEST Mind, Body and Soul café serving healthy salads, light bites, and smoothies.
Rooftop bar
The chic Icon Bar & Rooftop boasts what may be one of the best sunset views in Lisbon overlooking the Tagus River and the 25th of April Bridge. The atmosphere is stylish and cosmopolitan, making it the perfect place to dress up, especially if you are planning to take photos (and trust me, you will want to take photos!).
Keep an eye out for Felipe, who looks after all the guests and ensures everyone is having a great time, his upbeat and fun energy is contagious. I opted to enjoy the sunset views with healthy mocktails, and the Golden Bubbles mocktail, a refreshing blend of ginger beer, agave, lime, and passion fruit, was delicious.
Spa
The in-house spa by Serenity – The Art of Well Being is exceptional. I was booked in for the ‘Senses of Lisbon’ massage with Daniella. The experience began with inhaling basil essential oil to set the tone, followed by a relaxing massage using ginger and cinnamon oils to help combat fatigue. Daniella was excellent; highly skilled, intuitive, and attentive to areas of muscle tension. After the treatment, I was taken to a serene relaxation room and served a delicious pastel de nata–flavoured tea.
Beyond the treatment rooms, the spa features a large indoor pool, jacuzzi, Turkish bath, sauna, and multiple relaxation areas – you could easily spend an entire day there.
Although I did not have time to try them, Serenity has recently introduced intravenous (IV) therapies across its spas, delivering vitamins and essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream. The ‘Travel Ready’ IV therapy, packed with vitamin C and B complex, is firmly on my list for my next visit.
This was my third visit to a Serenity – The Art of Well Being spa, having previously experienced their locations at Pine Cliffs in the Algarve and Sheraton Resort Cascais. I can confidently say that the quality of the spas is consistently brilliant, with great staff at each location.
It is no surprise that Serenity has received multiple international awards in recent years, including “World’s Best Luxury Wellness Centre” in 2025 and “Spa of the Year” in 2024. Their expertise in wellness is clear, creating spaces that feel both tranquil and inviting.
Activities
Hyatt Regency Lisboa kindly set me up with two Lisboa Cards, which is the city’s official tourist card, granting free entry to 51 attractions, unlimited public transport, and exclusive discounts. I used my card to visit Jerónimos Monastery, which was a 25-minute walk along the waterfront from the hotel. The monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is stunning and showcases late Portuguese Gothic Manueline architecture.
No trip to the Belém neighbourhood is complete without a visit to Pastéis de Belém, the birthplace of the humble pastel de nata, and where bakers uphold the traditional methods and recipes.
For something a little different, I recommend Zambeze Restaurant near São Jorge Castle for a unique blend of Portuguese “beirã” cuisine and bold Mozambican flavours; the curried coconut duck stew and fish fillet with coconut milk are mouth-wateringly good.
For ease of travel and peace of mind, I pre-booked my airport transfers with Welcome Pickups. My driver was chatty and pointed out city landmarks throughout the journey; it ended up feeling like a mini-city tour.
Final thoughts
Hyatt Regency Lisboa left me pleasantly surprised. Being a Hyatt Regency, I knew that it would be very nice, but the hotel truly exceeded my expectations. Not only were all the staff warm and professional, but the spa was incredible, the dining options were high quality, and the rooftop bar was impressive (the views!). Both leisure and business travellers can enjoy the hotels amenities and location, with many tourist spots and the Lisbon Congress Centre nearby.
Finally, Belém is a charming part of the city, and the riverfront location is very scenic – being able to step out of the front of the hotel and walk along the waterfront to the centre of Belém was wonderful.
