Tell us about Langan’s, the story behind this Mayfair institution and its rebirth in 2021. What continues to set it apart in London’s ever-evolving fine dining scene?
Graziano Arricale: Born in 1976 and reborn in 2021, Langan’s has an unparalleled reputation for classic cuisine, stellar service and lavish parties. From the beginning, Langan’s Brasserie has grown into a glittering world of British elegance – open for early breakfasts, late night soirées and everything in between. Over the years, Langan’s has also welcomed an impressive list of guests, from Elizabeth Taylor and Elton John to Princess Margaret, Mick Jagger and Mohammad Ali.
We renovated and reopened Langan’s Brasserie in 2021 and we’re proud to say that Langan’s Brasserie continues to serve Mayfair as one of the neighbourhood’s most iconic restaurants, offering guests from London and afar exceptional drinking and dining experiences.
Langan’s Brasserie is an institution that is standing the test of time. In fact, we celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. A milestone that reflects our team’s high standard of service and fantastic dishes that appeal to guests both old and new.
Those that visit can continue to expect special anniversary menus, nostalgic dishes, and fantastic events, all designed to honour the restaurant’s past while looking ahead to its future.
As Langan’s celebrates its 50th anniversary, what are some of the biggest changes you’ve seen in the restaurant scene during your time there?
When we reopened after Covid, we had to strike a careful balance between modernising Langan’s Brasserie for today’s market and preserving the identity that made it special. We were mindful not to stray too far from its roots, while also recognising that large parts of the business were underutilised. We’re really pleased with where we are with the current Langan’s offering which now includes Upstairs at Langan’s and a cigar terrace.
Introduce us to the culinary experience at Langan’s – what can diners expect in terms of style, flavour and ambience?
Diners can expect a modern interpretation of a classic French-British brasserie experience, where timeless flavours and theatrical table-side service are enjoyed in a room pulsing with Mayfair glamour and iconic art. We remain dedicated to the ‘live a little’ ethos that made us a landmark, ensuring every visit feels like an electric celebration of London life.
Langan’s is more than a celebrated restaurant – tell us about Upstairs and the terrace.
Upstairs – famously the setting for Mick Jagger’s birthday party – was a large rectangular room that had primarily been used as overspill during busy periods and events. We saw an opportunity to make better use of the space, which led to the creation of the Upstairs at Langan’s concept. In addition, we transformed a flat roof at the back into a cigar terrace, which has been exceptionally well received.
Upstairs serves as our cocktail bar and lounge, a sanctuary for late-night cocktails and live music and DJs, offering an intimate escape from the bustling city. To complement this, our terrace provides a rare, al-fresco setting with a retractable roof, making it the perfect year-round destination for sophisticated socialising.
How can guests mark a special occasion at Langan’s?
In commemoration of its 50th anniversary, the restaurant will play host to an impressive lineup of special events, collaborations, and experiences throughout the year. Set to be Langan’s Brasserie’s biggest night of the year, the restaurant will be hosting an iconic celebration whereby guests can enjoy a specially curated 50th Anniversary menu for one night only. Not only will the menu feature much-loved Langan’s classics, but they can all be enjoyed for prices not seen since 1976.
We are also running monthly menu specials, ensuring the anniversary remains
an all-year-round affair. A range of seasonal ingredients and historic Langan’s classics will be highlighted including Tarte aux Fraises, Pea & Ham Hock Soup, Roasted Grouse and Native Oysters. To book your table, head to our website – we look forward to seeing you at Langan’s Brasserie.
