Live the high life

High in the Austrian Alps is a stunning new accommodation that delivers total luxury in the heart of one of Europe’s premier ski regions. The Aptly named Hohe Welt (Austrian for ‘high world’) is owned by the Stundner family, who have been running hotels in the Arlberg region for some 70 years. Built in 2016, this luxury villa in car-free Oberlech comprises four beautifully appointed holiday apartments.

Your host Otto Stundner says: “Unlike in a busy hotel, guests enjoy complete privacy and a personalised service. It’s not only perfect for families, but also for couples seeking a more relaxed way to spend their winter holidays.” There is more space to spread out at Hohe Welt than in a hotel, which is just one of the many advantages. Michaela, the concierge at Hohe Welt, describes her perfect day: “First, wake to a breathtaking mountain vista, then enjoy a breakfast of your choice in your apartment, which can be served at any time. Then, step outside directly onto the ski slope. You are in the middle of Austria’s largest skiing resort with 305km of perfectly manicured slopes, 88 ski lifts, 200km of backcountry runs – all accessible on skis, without ever having to use transport.

“Finally, after a great day, ski back to the villa, relax in the heated outdoor pool, enjoy a sauna or steam room, or if you have the energy, use the gym!”

With one or two bedrooms, bathrooms and a large living room, each apartment comfortably sleeps two to seven people. They feature modern, yet cosy ‘Alps 3.0’ interiors, open fireplaces, the latest technology and wi-fi, private spa, and a fully-equipped kitchen – but only should you need it! As well as breakfast, catering is available, with dishes such as fondue and other regional favourites delivered right to your table by the local award-winning restaurants.

The villa is situated in Oberlech, a high-altitude and high-end part of Lech. Guests of Hohe Welt can arrive in style through an access tunnel directly to the villa’s garage.
