It’s the bee’s knees!

Celebrate World Bee Day with Martin Miller’s Gin

Martin Miller’s Gin, the world’s most awarded gin brand, has partnered with top London venues and sustainable bee keeping practice Bermondsey Street Bees to celebrate World Bee Day, taking place on Thursday 20 May 2021.

The partnership will see a number of London’s favourite bars and restaurants offer the ultimate Bee’s Knees cocktail, featuring Martin Miller’s SUMMERFUL Gin and artisan honey produced by Bermondsey Street Bees. Those that indulge in this classic honey-based tipple will be gifted with thyme seeds, which support bee conservation, and directed on how to donate to select bee charities. Aqua Shard, Calooh Callay in Shoreditch and Chelsea, Little Bat, Cocktail Trading Company, and Searcy’s at The Gherkin are just a few of the venues that will be taking part, celebrating the day and also competing with each other to create the most delicious version of the drink. Martin Miller’s Gin will also take over Petersham Nurseries in Covent Garden on World Bee Day itself, offering a special menu and themed drinks.

The Bee’s Knees

The Bee’s Knees cocktail is a classic, prohibition-era cocktail featuring gin, honey and lemon. In a modern twist, the Martin Miller’s Gin Bee’s Knees will be made with Martin Miller’s SUMMERFUL Gin – the fresh new variant that was launched last year and which includes flavours of rosemary and bee-friendly thyme – and artisanal raw honey from Bermondsey Street Bees that has been specifically paired to the gin for this cocktail. The result is a complex, herbaceous and citrus cocktail with cherry-forward notes provided by the honey.

World Bee Day

The United Nations designated 20 May as World Bee Day in order to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development. The goal is to strengthen measures aimed at protecting bees and other pollinators, which would significantly contribute to solving problems related to food supply and biodiversity.

Rory O’Sullivan, Brand Ambassador, Martin Miller’s Gin comments; “As the world’s first super-premium gin to market, we have always believed that only the most exceptional ingredients make for the most exceptional drinks. Honey is one of the best ingredients for gin cocktails as its complex natural flavours bring out the botanicals of the spirit. However, bees of all species are under increasing threat from human activity and we therefore wanted to support World Bee Day in its mission to protect them, whilst having some fun by creating a new twist on that most classic of gin and honey cocktails, the aptly-named Bee’s Knee’s. Bermondsey Street Bees were the perfect partner for this – not only do they believe in the same quality production and pursuit of excellence as us, they have long worked closely with London’s bars and restaurants and wanted to celebrate their re-opening after the toughest of years. We hope everyone will enjoy getting out and about and celebrating the day!”

Sarah Wyndham-Lewis, Co-Founder, Bermondsey Street Bees adds, “There are 25,000 species of bee worldwide (of which only 7 species are honeybees) and they all need our support. This project with Martin Miller’s Gin hits the perfect note for World Bee Day, combining heavenly honey cocktails with learning about the wider world of essential pollinators.”
