Back at the beginning

Conciair was founded by Barrie M. Prescott in 2009 – the culmination of a lifetime’s work in the aerospace sector. Barrie’s father was in the Air Force, so he grew up around Spitfires, Hurricanes and Lancaster Bombers, which had a profound influence on him. At the end of the war, the family moved to south-east England. In the 1950s extensive research and development was taking place on a new generation of Hawker jet fighters at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey. Barrie remembers legendary test pilots Neville Duke and Hugh Merryweather being every boy’s hero; games of cricket at Cranleigh cricket ground would come to a stand-still as the latest Hunter, or Sea-Hawk, performed manoeuvres overhead. Although he didn’t fully realise it at the time, Barrie’s destiny was right above him, flying high in the sky.

Barrie Prescott

In 1952, Barrie’s father started an aviation company called Repaircraft Services, which is still trading today and brought young Barrie closer than ever to the aviation world. Confirming his love for planes, Barrie gained his pilot’s license aged 21 and fulfilled his dream of taking to the sky.

Barrie qualified as an Engineering Draughtsman, before moving on to work as a salesman in the aerospace sector; a profession that brought him into contact with some of the most ambitious aviation projects of recent times, including; Concorde, engine development at Rolls Royce, and the Tornado fighter jet.

In 2009, with years of aerospace experience under his belt and an international network of contacts, Barrie decided to go it alone and Conciair Ltd was formed.

The company began with just two Hawker Beechcraft Baron aircraft, which he flew across from the Beechcraft factory in the USA. Now as an air charter operator, Conciair has access to an extensive range of commercial jets.
